Maranta
Maranta
Maranta belongs to the Marantaceae family and is a tropical plant native to the Americas. This plant is distinguished by bright green, oval leaves, which may be variegated. Maranta attracts attention with a spectacular covering of bright leaves, decorated with spots or veins. The overall background of the foliage ranges from light, almost white, to nearly black, dark green. These low-growing plants (about 20 cm) are not very difficult to cultivate, although beginners may want to wait before trying them. Leaves can change their orientation depending on growing conditions. Under favorable conditions the leaf blades lie almost horizontally; in poor light or if other problems occur, the leaves raise upward and fold together. In general, leaves reach up to 15 cm in length.
Plant varieties
Maranta leuconeura Erythrophylla (tricolor maranta) – one of the most popular among gardeners. It has a three-colored bright pattern on the leaves and lateral red veins. The stems grow in a curved, slightly zigzag line. It is very easy to care for. The main thing is not to place it in the sun; it is best kept on a north-facing windowsill and shaded during the hottest hours of the day. The room air should be humid.
Maranta leuconeura Kerchoveana has bluish-green leaves with irregular dark or brownish spots along the midrib and a grayish-green underside. Maranta blooms with small white flowers, 2-3 inflorescences on one plant.
