Back to catalogue
Family Cactaceae. This is the largest genus of cacti, containing up to 500 species. Among them are very undemanding species that can be found in almost any cactus enthusiast's collection, and there are very demanding and difficult species that are, therefore, probably rare.

Mammillaria elongata - with a thin elongated stem, the tubercles are not high, and the golden spines are arranged in a neat rosette. It blooms with small white flowers, but only under favorable conditions, although in general it grows well in indoor culture. Fruits are formed after cross-pollination.

Mammillaria spinosissima - with a globular stem and thin, sharp spines of white and brown color. Between the tubercles there is a pubescence, like little white cotton balls. It blooms with bright pink flowers.

Mammillaria wildii - with an elongated thick stem up to 5 cm in diameter. Tubercles are thin and elongated with golden spines; the central spine is hooked. Easily forms offsets that do not detach by themselves but continue to grow, resulting in a heavily branched cactus. It blooms readily with small white flowers. Fruits are formed after cross-pollination.

Mammillaria zeilmanniana - with a short cylindrical stem and dense hooked spines. Flowers are bright pink, sometimes white in spring.

Mammillaria perbella - with a globular stem up to 6–7 cm in diameter with small white spines. It readily forms many offsets. Blooms with pink or red flowers.

Mammilaria hahniana - with a globular or cylindrical stem (up to 10 cm in diameter) and long white hairs; this woolly Mammillaria blooms with pink flowers. It easily forms many offsets.

Mammillaria bocasana - with an elongated thick stem (4–5 cm in diameter), with thin long tubercles, it forms many offsets. Its distinctive feature is the spines: a long central brown spine that bends like a hook, several thin needle-like spines, and also longer white hair-like spines. This Mammillaria also grows and blooms easily indoors with small white flowers that, when numerous, decorate the plant very well. Fruits are formed after cross-pollination.
