Flowers for the garden
Tufted loosestrife
Lysimachia thyrsiflora
Family Primulaceae. Often encountered on banks and shallow waters throughout Russia.
It spreads actively by a long rhizome that produces erect, simple, and sturdy stems up to 60 cm tall. Narrow lanceolate leaves are closely set. In the axils of the upper leaves, on short stalks, oblong dense inflorescences up to 3 cm long are borne. The flowers are small and yellow, with 6–7 thin petals and protruding stamens, which makes the inflorescence appear fluffy. The only one that blooms in late May–June.
