Korolkova honeysuckle

Lonicera korolkowii

Back to catalogue

Family Caprifoliaceae. Central Asia - Western Tien Shan and Pamiro-Alay. In the mountains in open places, in the understory of nut-fruit and deciduous forests and in shrub thickets in the upper forest zone, and sometimes also in the subalpine belt up to 3000 m above sea level. Protected in nature reserves.

A very decorative deciduous shrub up to 3 m tall, with spreading, when young softly pubescent branches. Leaves broadly ovate or elliptic (up to 3 cm), acuminate, with a broadly cuneate base, bluish-green, often glaucous, giving the plant a distinctive character, which is enhanced by the appearance of light-red buds. Even more showy at flowering time, which lasts two weeks, when abundant, pinkish flowers open, striking against the glaucous foliage. Spherical, bright-orange or scarlet, very decorative fruits remain on the bushes until late autumn. Seldom damaged by pests and diseases.
