Glen's honeysuckle
Lonicera glehnii F. Schmidt
Family Caprifoliaceae. An inhabitant of the islands of the southern Kuril chain and Sakhalin, where it occupies dry mountain slopes up to the stone birch forest belt.
The shrub reaches about 1.5 m in height. It is distinguished by fairly large leaves — up to 10–12 cm long; they are glabrous above, slightly wrinkled, and slightly pubescent beneath. Greenish-yellow flowers are borne on long peduncles up to 4.5 cm. The fruits are bright red, shiny, and fairly large — up to 1.5 cm. Two fruitlets are partially fused with each other. The shrub flowers and fruits in its 5th–6th year. Fruits ripen in July–August. This species is propagated both by seed and by summer (softwood) cuttings. When treated with indole-3-butyric acid, about 80% of the cuttings root.
