Family Poaceae (the grass family). A low-growing perennial plant that produces a large number of tiller shoots and a highly branched root system that densely penetrates and binds the soil. Forms a firm, resilient turf. The sward is dark green, denser and more even than that of meadow-grass. Leaves are channeled, 1–2 mm wide. Fills in bare spots on lawns by itself.
