Flowers for the garden
Liparis Kumokiri
Liparis kumokiri
Family: Orchids. Grows only in the forests of Kunashir Island.
Plants 15–25 cm tall, with rhizomes and bulb-like swellings at the base of the stems. Leaves 2, in the lower part of the stem; they are elliptic, blunt at both ends, 5–10 cm long, 2.5 cm wide, with strongly undulating margins. The raceme is sparse, few-flowered; flowers erect or slightly deflexed, rather large, yellow-green or reddish. Pedicels up to 3 mm long, considerably shorter than the ovary. Perianth segments linear (except for the lip). The lip is almost equal to the other petals in size, cuneate-obovate, with more or less reflexed margins, without a spur. The ovary is clavate, on a twisted pedicel.
