Family Orchidaceae. It grows in the deciduous forests of Japan and China.

Japanese Liparis is a plant with an ovoid stem tuber covered by the dead sheaths of old leaves. There are usually 2 green leaves, ovate, obtuse, up to 14 cm long, narrowed at the base into a winged petiole. The stem is ribbed, slightly winged along the ribs, up to 45 cm tall. The inflorescence is a sparse raceme, up to 15 cm long. Bracts small, ovate. Flowers yellowish-green. The middle segment of the outer whorl is ovate-lanceolate, obtuse, up to 6.5 mm long; the lateral ones up to 7 mm long, asymmetrical. Segments of the inner whorl linear, obtuse, 7 mm long. The lip is greenish, up to 7 mm long and 6 mm wide, with the margin slightly curled-wavy. The ovary on a twisted pedicel is club-shaped. Flowers in June–July.
