Ligularia stenocephala

Back to catalogue

Family Asteraceae. Native to northern China.

Closely related to Przewalski's ligularia. It is distinguished by larger flowers and heart-shaped, sharply toothed leaves.

A hybrid between Ligularia przewalskii and Ligularia stenocephala, named 'The Rocket', occurs in cultivation. It has taken characteristics from both parents: flowers up to 5 cm in diameter on erect dark flower stalks up to 150-200 cm tall. Leaves are thick, heart-shaped with coarsely toothed margins. Winter-hardy without protection. In autumn the leaves of this cultivar turn showy purplish-raspberry tones. Attractive in combination with Rodgersia at the water's edge.
