Family Asteraceae. In the wild it occurs in Western Siberia, Central Asia and the Far East. Found on wet meadows and along the banks of rivers and streams.

The lower basal leaves have long petioles, are elliptic and glaucous, 30-45 cm long. Blooms in mid-summer. The flower-heads are yellow, numerous, and gathered into a paniculate panicle. Flowering stems up to 150 cm tall. Winter-hardy without shelter. Good in the background of a mixed border.
