Leptosiphon

Leptosiphon

Back to catalogue

Family Polemoniaceae. This plant has several names, such as Linanthus ssp. leptosiphon 'Confetti Mixture', Gilia x hybrida, Linanthus x hybridus, 'French Hybrids'.

These plants produce so many flowers that the tiny clumps beneath them are almost hidden, with a height barely reaching 10 cm. The delicate leaves are needle-shaped and covered with numerous hairs. When grown on poor soil the plant appears as a dense gray-green tuft, whereas on fertile soil the shoots elongate and leptosiphon loses its characteristic appearance.

Seeds are sown outdoors in April–May. For planting choose a warm sunny location, such as an alpine rockery or a border along the edges of a courtyard. Mass flowering of leptosiphon begins at the end of June and reaches its peak in July. A second wave of flower formation occurs in August–September. To ensure continuous flowering, sow the seeds in several stages, staggered over time.
