Leea
Leea
Family: Leea. Native to Southeast Asia. Leea can be grown from seeds sown in February. Seeds germinate rather slowly 1-3 months. For sowing use wide trays filled with a mixture of sand and leaf soil or sand and peat in equal parts.
As a houseplant, Leea coccinea is commonly grown. It is a sprawling shrub with pinnately divided leaves. Leaflets are opposite on long brownish-red petioles.
An individual leaflet — a green segment with a purplish tinge, lanceolate, pointed at the tip, with a wavy margin, 7-10cm long. A whole leaf, consisting of several pairs of "branches" with segments, reaches 60-80cm in length. Numerous bright red flowers with a pink reflex of the corolla are gathered in umbel-like inflorescences.
Temperature: Moderate in summer - about 20-22 °C, cool in winter within 16-18°C, minimum 15°C. Does not tolerate sharp temperature fluctuations or drafts.
Light: Bright, diffused light or light partial shade.
Watering: Abundant in spring and summer, the soil should be slightly moist. In winter watering is more moderate. Use only warm, soft water.
Fertilizer: During the growing and flowering period every two weeks, with a liquid fertilizer for flowering houseplants.
