Laurel

Laurus

Back to catalogue
Family Lauraceae. Native to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Evergreen small trees and shrubs with dense, fragrant leaves. Grows well in indoor conditions if it has enough light and fresh air. The plant's crown is formed by pruning.
In indoor culture they cultivate Bay Laurel - Laurus nobilis - whose leaves are used in cooking as a spice. For laurel as an ornamental plant it is important to maintain its shape. For this purpose they are pruned annually, preferably at the end of summer after growth has finished.

Laurels are mainly trained into a pyramidal form or as standard trees with a rounded crown. Height is maintained at 60-70 cm.

Temperature: Moderate, in winter around 12-15°C; can also be kept in a cool room, but not below +1°C.

Lighting: Laurel needs bright light and tolerates some direct sunlight. It will grow well on an east- or west-facing windowsill.

Watering: Moderate indoors and plentiful outdoors from spring to autumn; very moderate in winter.
