Family Aizoaceae. Native to South Africa. About 150 species occur in nature, represented by annual or biennial herbs with erect or creeping shoots.

Orange Lampranthus - Lampranthus auratiacus - a bushy plant about 15 cm high. Shoots of young plants are erect, then they droop and creep along the ground.

Leaves are succulent and three-angled in shape. Flowers on long peduncles are pink, lilac or red, 4-5 cm in diameter. Blooms from mid-summer to mid-autumn. Fruit is a capsule.



Temperature: Moderate. In winter a dormancy period at 10-12°C, minimum 8°C, when kept dry.

Light: Bright sun throughout the year.

Watering: Moderate in spring and summer. Water very carefully; excess moisture easily causes root rot. During dormancy with cold wintering the soil is only occasionally slightly moistened.
