Flowers for the garden
Orvala dead-nettle
Lamium orvala
Family Lamiaceae.
Description: Native to Eastern and Southern Europe.
This dead-nettle forms a compact "shrub" up to 40-50 cm tall, with succulent green leaves and pink-purple flowers that open from May to June. In autumn, with frosts, the above-ground part dies back. This dead-nettle is planted in flower beds to decorate shrubs that are bare at the base and to arrange the circles around tree trunks. Dead-nettle Lamium orvala prefers moist, moderately fertile soil, and favors a sunny or slightly shaded spot, free of weeds. It is propagated by dividing the «shrub» and by stem cuttings in the first half of the season, and also by sowing seeds into the ground in spring.
