LAMARCKIA

Back to catalogue

Family: Poaceae. Name: named in honor of the famous French scientist J. B. Lamarck and attracts attention with a dense panicle of a golden hue.

Location: The plants are cold-hardy, sun-loving, not demanding of soils, but do not tolerate excess moisture.

Care: In dry weather, watering is necessary for growth and flowering. Large panicles on tall plants develop if nitrogen fertilizers are applied first and then complex fertilizers 3-4 times before the start of flowering. A repeat flowering by autumn is possible.

Propagation: By seeds, which are not threshed from the spikelets, therefore 1 - 1.5 g/m² are required. Seeds are sown directly into the ground in May; seedlings appear in 10 - 12 days. They are thinned, leaving 10-15 cm between plants.

Use: Lamarckia will decorate a rock garden, create a spot of an unusual shade in a mixed border, advantageously emphasize taller plants in a flowerbed and, of course, be irresistible in fresh and dried bouquets. For drying, panicles are cut at different stages of flowering to obtain several shades. They are dried in a vase to preserve the original one-sided form. If dried in bunches with the panicles downward, they will acquire the usual two-sided form.
