Lagurus
LAGURUS
Family: Poaceae Location: cold-hardy, moisture-loving, grows in sun and partial shade.
Care: after planting or thinning, plants should be fed with nitrogen fertilizers 2-3 times at intervals of 7-10 days, then with a complete balanced fertilizer 1-2 times at the same interval. Watering in dry weather is essential. With good proper care particularly large panicles develop, and one plant can have many of them.
Propagation: by seed; to obtain 100 plants you need 0.1 - 0.3 g. Sow directly in the ground in May. To obtain vigorous early-flowering plants, it is advisable to sow seeds in pots at the beginning of April and place them in a bright location. Seedlings appear after 10-12 days. When planting out, sowing or thinning, the spacing between plants should be 10-15 cm.
Uses: Lagurus is decorative in a mixed border and on a rock garden, but is especially attractive in dried bouquets and arrangements. For drying, inflorescences are cut shortly after flowering, since as they fade they acquire a somewhat dull/dirty tint. They are dried in a dry room in bunches or spread out in a thin layer. Dried inflorescences retain their decorative appeal for many years.
