Family Fabaceae. Occurs on rocky and scree slopes of Central Asia.

A climbing plant about 150 cm tall. Superficially similar to sweet pea (L. odoratus). Blooms in mid-summer. Flowers are large and scentless, pink, 2–4 per raceme. Flowers appear in mid-summer. When grown from seed it flowers in the 2nd–3rd year. Requires a sunny position on a well-drained site with non-acid loamy soil. Does not like transplanting and does not require it for many years. Drought-tolerant, does not tolerate excess water in the soil. Hardy through winter without shelter. Striking on low trellises.
