Flowers for the garden
Garden or hybrid iris
Iris x hybrida hort.
Family Cruciferae. More than 30,000 cultivars are known, obtained as a result of complex crossings of the German iris with other species of the genus.
According to garden classification hybrid bearded irises are the most extensive in number of cultivars. Depending on the height of the flowering scape they are divided into six classes. Mid-sized and tall bearded iris cultivars are especially widely represented in practical floriculture. A separate group of irises, bred as far back as the first half of the XX century or earlier - the "retro" irises, is singled out. Recently, dwarf or miniature irises have also been gaining in popularity.
