Family Cruciferae. A bearded species of hybrid origin.

Branched flowering stem, up to 70 cm tall, bears 5-7 white, bluish-tinged fragrant flowers. Leaves are bluish-gray, large and sword-shaped. Blooms in late May. Does not set seed, reproduces only vegetatively. Not sufficiently frost-hardy. In cultivation since the 15th century.
