Impatiens walleriana
Family Balsaminaceae. Bushy herbaceous plant. Stems erect, sometimes becoming prostrate with age, succulent. Leaves alternate, petiolate, up to 10 cm long, 4 cm wide, light green or reddish, broadly ovate or ovate, toothed. Flowers up to 4 cm in diameter, solitary or in few-flowered terminal or axillary inflorescences, on long pedicels.
Sepals 3, of which 2 are green and small and 1 is larger with a slightly curved spur up to 5 cm long. The corolla is red, pink, reddish-orange, white or variegated (red-white), asymmetric, 5-parted, divided. Native to East Africa (Tanzania, Mozambique); grows in mountains at elevations up to 1700 m above sea level, along mountain riverbanks. In cultivation since the late 19th century. Garden forms with variegated leaves are known.
