Appearance: usually a small to large shrub, 2-4 m tall, 1-3 m wide, conical, compact.
Fruits: the cultivar is represented exclusively by male plants, does not produce fruit, but is an important pollinator for other cultivars.
Leaves: evergreen, oval or narrowly ovate, glossy, dark green, with a blackish tint in winter, dense, leathery; young leaves have spiny margins.
Root system: deep, wide.
Requirements: sun/partial shade, prefers warmth, relatively winter-hardy.
Soils: fresh to moist, acidic to slightly alkaline, well-drained, sandy loam and humus-rich substrates.
