Hydrangea aspera “Macrophylla”
Appearance: a small shrub or medium-sized shrub, 1-2 m in height and width, in most cases unbranched but dense, appearing rigid; fast or medium growth rate.
Flowers: large blue or reddish inflorescences, up to 20 cm in diameter, marginal flowers – white or pink, July-August.
Fruits: inconspicuous.
Leaves: narrowly elliptic or lanceolate, dark green, up to 35 cm, no autumn coloration.
Root system: superficial; on light soils forms suckers.
Requirements: partial shade / shade, not very winter-hardy, wind-resistant.
Soils: from strongly acidic to neutral substrates, rich in humus.
Zone: 6
