Family Poaceae Occurs in the temperate zone of Eurasia. A groundcover plant. Forms dense thickets, reaching 100–150 cm in height.

Has long, creeping rhizomes. Stems erect, thick. Leaves dark green. Panicles spreading, 15-40 cm long, spikelets up to 1 cm. Flowers in late June, seeds form in July–August.

"Variegata" - a cultivar 50-60 cm tall. Leaves with yellowish longitudinal stripes, acquiring reddish tones by autumn.

Location: plant in a pond at a depth of up to 15 cm or in a small marsh. Grows well in partial shade, roots quickly, but is aggressively spreading.

Soil: prefers moist or marshy soil.

Planting: in cases when mannagrass is not grown to stabilize the banks of a lake or pond, it should be placed in a basket to prevent it from spreading.

Care: requires no special care, except for restricting its spread within the intended composition.
