Zelenchuk

Galeobdolon

Back to catalogue

Family Lamiaceae. Plants of this genus grow in Central Europe and Siberia.

Location of Zelenchuk: in a bright, semi-shady, cool place. Moisture-loving plants, but they do not suffer much from drought and quickly regain their decorative appearance. It has been noted that spotted dead-nettles grow best in open semi-shady locations, although, if the soil is moist, they also develop well in sun.

Soil: fresh, moist, loose, rich in nutrients. Varieties of spotted dead-nettle grow well on moist, moderately fertile soil. If the soil is too fertile, the plants can become very vigorous and spread beyond their allotted spot in the flowerbed.

Care: add humus; after flowering prune or you can mow for more compact growth. Hardy without protection. Plants with a larger amount of young basal shoots overwinter better.

Propagation of Zelenchuk: by seeds, division and cuttings. It is very easy to propagate by seed, flowering in the second year. The best method of propagation is vegetative (division and layering). It can even be propagated from leaf cuttings. With extended flowering periods self-seeding is always inevitable. If not needed, seedlings are easy to remove; however, if you have several varieties of spotted dead-nettle in your plot, the seedlings often turn out very interesting.

Use: in small plots in the shade of walls and trees. The most valuable are forms with low compact growth, more variegated leaves and abundant flowering.
