Flowers for the garden

Magnificent or Luxuriant Geranium

G. x magnificum

Back to catalogue

Family: Geraniaceae. Bred as a result of crossing the Georgian geranium with the flat-petaled geranium.

Perennial plant. This species has been known for more than 100 years. In sunny sites and on fertile soils this plant forms a large, rapidly spreading clump up to 50 cm tall. In July it is covered with numerous light-lilac flowers; its attractive hairy, five-lobed leaves are toothed at the margins. In autumn they take on an orange-yellow or brick-red hue.

Propagated by dividing the clump in spring or in late summer. They do not form seeds and are therefore sterile. Large plants often break apart. Recommended for use in mixed flower borders or as solitary plantings within a lawn.
