Family: Asteraceae. Native to the southern states of North America.
Under this name are grouped garden hybrids of various origins, usually involving Gaillardia aristata (G. aristata Pursh) and Gaillardia pulchella (G. pulchella Foug.). Plants 50-80 cm tall. Leaves lanceolate, hairy. The ray flowers of the inflorescences range from orange-yellow to brownish-red tones, in semi-double or double flower heads up to 10 cm in diameter. Blooms from June to August for up to 60 days, after which the leaves yellow and lose their decorative value. Produces fruit. In cultivation since 1812.
