Flowers for the garden

Sessile-flowered geranium

G. sessiliflorum var. nigrum

Back to catalogue

Family Geraniaceae. Native to the mountains of New Zealand and the Andes.

Perennial plant. Its round, long-petioled brown leaves are gathered in a basal rosette up to 20 cm in diameter. It blooms from July to October, sometimes longer. This is an unpretentious and hardy plant. Place it in a sunny spot in a hollow between stones or on scree. In favorable conditions it spreads by self-seeding, but does not proliferate excessively. Mature specimens should not be transplanted - their taproot can be damaged. It tolerates Central European winters well, although partial winter covering is still advisable.
