Appearance: large tree with a broadly ovoid, open, airy crown, with straight, sparsely branched shoots, height 20-25 m, width 10-15 m, fast-growing, 60-80 cm per year.

Leaves: leaf out late, odd-pinnate, green.

Root system: deep, wide, sensitive to compaction.

Requirements: sun/partial shade, winter-hardy, tolerant of urban conditions.

Soils: relatively dry to fresh, does not tolerate excess moisture, prefers fertile alkaline soils.
