Sheep fescue
Festuca ovina
Family Poaceae. Prefers well-lit sites, resistant to frost and rotting from prolonged wetness, and poorly tillers under drought conditions.
Plant with a powerful root system that penetrates deeply into the soil. Used for dry and nutrient-poor soils. Prefers sunny locations, often used in mixtures with red fescue. Tolerates trampling well and frequent mowing, not lower than 3.5 cm. Used on dry slopes; prefers weakly podzolic and sod-podzolic sandy and sandy-loam, poor soils.
