Fatsia
Fatsia
Family Araliaceae. Native to Japan and the island of Taiwan. Ornamental, fast-growing plant. Valued for its beautiful crown of palmate glossy leaves; flowers whitish, inconspicuous.
The most widespread is Japanese Fatsia - Fatsia japonica. Fatsia grows very quickly and with good care can reach 1-1.5 m in a couple of years, with leaves reaching 35 cm in diameter. Fatsia is periodically pruned to promote branching.
Temperature: Fatsia grows well in cool rooms. In warm rooms where it is over 19-20°C it drops lower leaves and loses decorative appeal. The room should be ventilated regularly, but avoid cold drafts.
Lighting: Bright light, protection from direct sunlight; tolerates partial shade; in winter requires good lighting.
Watering: Abundant in spring and summer; in winter moderate and cautious.
Fertilizer: From May to August Fatsia is fed weekly with a complete fertilizer for ornamental foliage plants. Do not fertilize in autumn and winter.
Humidity: Frequent misting — prefers humid air; because its large size makes it difficult to place Fatsia under a shower, occasionally wash the leaves in a basin.
Repotting: Annually in spring, but it is better to repot Fatsia when the roots have filled the entire root ball. Soil — light turf (garden) soil (3 parts) mixed with peat (2 parts) and sand (1 part).
