Fascicularia
Fascicularia
Fascicularia bicolor (Fascicularia bicolor) - one of the most ornamental plants of the bromeliad family, native to Chile. Despite the warm natural growing conditions, the plant adapts very well to various cultivation conditions thanks to its herbaceous stem and its closed, stiff rosette of leaves. In the center of the rosette are pale blue flowers surrounded by cream bracts with serrated edges. Leaves are long, spear-shaped, over 50 cm in length, green. For successful cultivation it is recommended to add a large amount of partially decomposed organic matter and sphagnum moss, pieces of bark and wood humus to the potting mix, and to ensure drainage in pots.
Location: grows well in greenhouses where the temperature is around 28°C.
Light: prefers partial shade.
Watering: moderate in spring and summer, limited in winter; avoid overwatering.
Air humidity: moderate; the plant responds well to misting.
Care: feed with liquid fertilizer in late spring.
Propagation: by offsets from spring to early summer at a temperature of 27°C; the root system develops slowly.
Repotting: not necessary. Soil: a potting mix of leaf soil, topsoil, humus, peat, sand with added charcoal and sphagnum moss (3:2:1:3:1)
Possible problems: loss of inflorescence ornamental value due to sudden fluctuations in temperature and dampness.
