Family Iridaceae. Corm ovoid-conical. Stem weak, 20-30 cm high, slightly rising above class=""leaves.
Leaves linear-ensiform or broadly lanceolate. Inflorescence - a sparse paniculate spike of 3-5 flowers, during flowering strongly bent backwards. Flowers narrowly funnel-shaped, from greenish-yellow to bright yellow, fragrant. The tube narrows abruptly from the middle of its length, the segments of the perianth unequal in size. Bracts small, narrow, do not cover the ovary. Blooms in spring. Described in 1816.
Has varieties:
Ф. н. Альба - with large white flowers and a gradually narrowing tube, segments almost equal, with purple streaks in the throat of the flower on a yellowish background.
Ф. н. Лейхтлина - has 3-7 large bell-shaped, pale yellow flowers with orange-red margins and spots in the throat. Tube sharply narrowed. Scape 15-25 cm. Tunics of the corm netted.
Ф. н. душистая (одората) - has 3-7 bright yellow flowers, with an orange spot on the lower lanceolate segments. Tube sharply narrowed. Tunics of the corm thin. Stem slender. The flowers have a pronounced lily-of-the-valley fragrance.
Ф. н. желтопятнистая (ксантоспила) - flowers white with sulfur-yellow spots at the base of the segments. Leaves broad-lanceolate, the tunics of the corms fibrous.
