Family Gentianaceae. Native to East and South Asia, the Malay Archipelago, Socotra Island. About 20–30 species are in cultivation. Often grown as an annual.

Exacum affine is a biennial herbaceous plant about 20-30 cm tall. Stems erect, leaves ovate, about 3.5 cm long, bright green. Flowers small - about 1 cm in diameter, lilac-blue in color, fragrant. Flowering is usually very abundant.



Temperature: Moderate. Winter minimum 8°C, optimal 16-18°C. In summer place outdoors.

Light: Exacum is light-loving and requires bright light with a small amount of direct sunlight. In the hottest hours of summer some shading will be necessary. With too intense light the flowers may fade.

Watering: Abundant from spring to autumn. The soil should remain slightly moist at all times. In winter watering is more moderate.
