Family Euphorbiaceae. Succulent shrub up to 1.7 m tall. Stems fleshy, 7-10 cm in diameter, round in cross-section, ribbed. Ribs from 7 to 20, sharp, about 1.5 cm high.
They are wavy, with brownish warty outgrowths along the edge and red-violet or almost black solitary spines. It branches abundantly from the base, forming a distinctive shrub of several shoots. Flowers in a complex corymb-like inflorescence, yellow, small, with two dark-red bracts. Native range - South Africa.
