Eucharis

Family Amaryllidaceae. Native to tropical America. A beautiful bulbous plant with snow-white, fragrant flowers gathered in an umbel. The flower is similar in shape to a narcissus. First flowering occurs from October until deep winter. It blooms a second time in spring. March and August are the plant's dormancy periods.

At this time it can be repotted. During repotting, offsets are separated. Keep the planted bulb in a warm place until it sprouts and water moderately. The flower has a long tube on a scape up to 60 cm high. There may be from three to six flowers.

Lighting: Bright diffused light or partial shade; it does not tolerate direct sunlight.

Watering: Abundant during flowering; in March and August the plant is usually dormant, so watering is almost stopped at that time, but the root ball should not dry out completely.

Fertilizer: In spring and summer, until the end of flowering, apply nutrient feedings every 2 weeks with special liquid fertilizers for flowering houseplants.

Air humidity: From time to time wipe the leaves of eucharis with a sponge. In summer regularly mist.

Repotting: Not earlier than once every 3-4 years, during the dormancy period, preserving the root ball during repotting. During repotting, unlike other bulbous plants, it is not recommended to separate offsets from eucharis unnecessarily, because eucharis planted singly do not bloom for a long time. Bulbs are planted at a depth of 4-5 cm. After planting, water rarely at first. The soil should be the most nutritious (fibrous-soddy with a mixture of leaf and peat soil, as well as well-rotted cow manure and sand). Plant in shallow but wide pots.
