Eucalyptus
Family: Myrtaceae. Native to Australia. A beautiful, fast-growing pyramidal tree with bluish-green leaves that seem to be covered with a waxy bloom. It has a very fragrant aroma due to the presence of aromatic essential oil.
Eucalyptus is characterized by heterophylly: on young branches the leaves are soft, bluish, ovate in shape with a characteristic scent; on older branches they gradually become elongated, leathery, and less decorative. Flowers are solitary, axillary. In indoor conditions it very rarely flowers. Fruits are four-sided capsules.
In indoor cultivation the following are grown: Эвкалипт Гунни - Eucalyptus gunnii and Эвкалипт лимонный - Eucalyptus citriodora. These are not tall, slow-growing species. In its native range eucalyptus forms trees up to 1.5 m tall. Eucalyptus leaves are used to treat a number of ailments.
Temperature: Moderate 16-18°C, in winter slightly lower or cool 12-15°C. In summer pots can be placed outdoors.
Lighting: Eucalyptus needs bright light, with some direct sunlight. Grows well on east and west windows.
Watering: Copious from spring to autumn, moderate in winter. The soil should remain slightly moist at all times.
Fertilizer: From April to August use a balanced mineral fertilizer for houseplants, every two weeks.
