Family Orchidaceae. The only representative of the genus. Grows only on Kunashir Island (Kuril Islands), in bogs, outside the USSR - in Japan.

Plant up to 30 cm tall, with tuberous roots about 6 mm thick. One leaf, basal, narrow, linear-lanceolate, up to 15 cm long, 8 mm wide, tapering to the base and apex. Flower 1 (rarely 2), pink-purple, 2.5 cm long, lip three-lobed, about 2.5 cm. Capsule linear, almost sessile. Flowers in July, fruits in September-October. Reproduces by seed.
