Duranta
Duranta
Family Verbenaceae. Native to the humid tropical forests of South America, India, and Mexico. It is a shrub with leaves that have serrated edges and flowers of many shades — lilac, blue, violet, pink, white. In nature about 36 species of duranta are known as shrubs or small trees.
Duranta Plumier - Duranta plumieri - or commonly called "pigeon berry", in the wild grows into a small tree up to 2.5 m tall, has quadrangular shoots, and leaves that can be either ovate or oblong, pointed at the ends, up to 10 cm long. Many small flowers are produced, lilac or blue in color. The flowers are gathered in groups at the ends of the branches; when flowering is abundant, the branches are covered with flowers. Fruits are yellow berries, the size of a cherry. Duranta plumieri has garden cultivars not suitable for indoor growing; they can be variegated and have white flowers.
