Drimiopsis

Back to catalogue
Family Liliaceae. Native to tropical Africa (Zanzibar). In the wild there are several dozen deciduous and evergreen species. In houseplant cultivation only two species have become widespread.

Spotted Drimiopsis - Drimiopsis maculata - a small deciduous clump-forming plant with elongated bulbs, cordate-ovate leaves narrowed at the tip, olive-green in color with dark bright spots and dots. Leaves up to 15 cm long with a slightly wavy margin, on long petioles about 20 cm long. Inflorescences racemose with small flowers white, gray or cream in color with a light sweet fragrance. Dormancy period in winter. A characteristic feature of the plant is the change in leaf coloration: dark spots usually appear in early spring and summer, and from autumn until the dormancy period they gradually disappear completely.
