Lucky Bamboo - a common name for the dracaena "Bamboo of Happiness".

Lucky Bamboo has firmly taken root both among fans of ornamental horticulture and among flower-shop florists, but it is not the legendary bamboo that everyone knows. Indeed, the stem of this plant outwardly resembles bamboo, but the true name of this plant is: Dracaena Sanderiana (Sanderiana) ( Dracaena Sanderiana ) it is also called Dracaena "Bamboo of Happiness" or "Lucky Bamboo" - Dracaena Lucky Bamboo.

Lucky Bamboo is the English version of the name of Dracaena Sanderiana. The name contains the notion of "lucky, bringing fortune" because in China, according to the teachings of Feng Shui, it is believed that if this plant is present in the home it will undoubtedly bring luck, success and happiness to the family.

Dracaena Sanderiana is a perennial ornamental plant, distinguished by its undemanding nature; it requires bright, well-ventilated rooms. It tolerates dry air well and does not require constant misting.

Dracaena-bamboo can be grown in water, but under such conditions it may lack some of the minerals it needs; as a result its leaves may over time acquire a yellowish tint. To prevent this, mineral fertilizers and feed supplements for dracaenas should be added to the water.

For planting dracaena-bamboo in soil it is necessary to create conditions that ensure good drainage. Therefore the lower part of the soil should include round or oval stones; you can also use special decorative stones or coarse-grained sand. As the top layer of soil you can use ordinary potting soil for flowers; you may also add peat and granulate. The simplest soil mix for "Lucky Bamboo" is a 50/50 mixture of ordinary houseplant soil and sand.
