Dracaena

Back to catalogue
Family Dracaenaceae. Native to the tropical regions of Africa and Asia, and the Canary Islands. When choosing a dracaena for an apartment, it is necessary to consider how much space will be available, since among the various species of dracaena there are both giant and dwarf, as well as plants of ordinary form.

Red-edged dracaena - Dracaena marginata - a perennial plant reaching up to 3 m in height, with a thick woody stem that usually branches little and becomes largely bare. Leaves up to 50 cm long, about 1-2 cm wide, glossy, narrowly lanceolate. Leaf color is predominantly green, but depending on the cultivar may have yellow or red stripes.

Fragrant dracaena - Dracaena fragrans - has bright green leaves with a silvery-gray stripe down the middle. Grows up to 2 m in indoor conditions. Blooms with fragrant white flowers. This is one of the best species of dracaena. Also a not very demanding plant, tolerating fairly cool winter temperatures down to 10°C.

Deremensis dracaena - Dracaena deremensis - a slow-growing plant, reaches 1.5 m and higher. Leaves up to 50 cm long, about 5 cm wide, glossy, lanceolate. There is a cultivar with purely green leaves, but variegated cultivars are more common. Some have one or several white or yellow stripes.

Sander's dracaena - Dracaena sanderiana - a compact plant, growing to 70-100 cm in height. Has gray-green, slightly twisted leaves up to 23 cm long. There is a cultivar with a dark green margin.
