Family Rutaceae. Native range - Western and Central Europe.
Perennial plant with a branched rhizome. Stems erect, densely pubescent, up to 90 cm tall. Leaves thick, on long petioles, basal leaves - entire, stem leaves - imparipinnate with ovate, pointed at the tips leaflets, toothed at the margin, covered with glandular hairs. Flowers white, fragrant, up to 2.5 cm in diameter, gathered in raceme-like inflorescences up to 20 cm long. Blooms in June–July for 30–35 days. Fruit - a capsule, seeds black, shiny, ripen in August–September. Cultivated since ancient times, from the extreme south to the taiga zone. Garden forms with pink and dark red flowers are known.
