Name: Greek, meaning «two-part crown» — referring to the teeth of the staminodes in the type species — D. congestum.

Description: Corm covered with fibers. Scape more or less sinuous. Leaves 2–3 in number, linear, as long as the scape, more or less fleshy, keeled below and grooved above. Bracts 3 or more, thin, colored. Flowers dark purple, articulated with the pedicels; tube more or less inflated, equal in length to the lobes, slightly constricted at the throat. Anthers 3, almost sessile, attached at the base. Staminodes equal to or exceeding the anthers. Stigma three-winged. Capsule sessile. Five to six species are known in western North America, predominantly in California. Flowers in late spring.
