Deutzia x lemoinei Lemoine

Back to catalogue

Family Hydrangeaceae. Hybrid of Deutzia gracilis and Deutzia parviflora (D. gracilis x D. parviflora).

Early-flowering shrub up to 2 meters tall, notable for abundant flowering, snow-white flowers up to 2 cm in diameter, gathered in paniculate inflorescences up to 10 cm long. For better flowering, old shrubs require moderate rejuvenation and feeding with organic fertilizers during the flowering period.

The hybrid has a number of merits: blooms early (in May), abundantly and for a long time, and is quite winter-hardy. It is one of the most resilient representatives of the genus. Used in single and group plantings, in untrimmed living hedges

Lemoine has developed a number of ornamental cultivars of this hybrid, of interest for garden and park landscaping.

"Boule-de-Neige" - a shrub up to 1.5 m tall with a crown of the same size. Shoots arch upward above the ground. Leaves lanceolate, 3–6 cm long, gray-green in summer, yellow in autumn. Flowers white, about 2.5 cm in diameter, gathered in long paniculate inflorescences up to 10 cm long. Blooms abundantly in June. In severe winters it may suffer heavy frost damage, but the shoots regrow quickly and the crown recovers.

"Pink Pompon" - a new cultivar obtained in Germany, buds carmine, flowers bright pink, double, gathered in dense, hemispherical inflorescences.

"Mont Rose" - a shrub up to 1.5 m tall, with beautiful large bright pink flowers that open in June. The edges of the petals are slightly curled, and the yellow anthers are striking.
