Family Hydrangeaceae. Native - grows wild in the mountains of Japan.
Notable for its small height (up to 1.5 m), rounded shrub form with thin, arching branches and abundant flowering. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, long-acuminate, up to 6 cm long, with an unequally serrated margin, sparsely stellate-hairy above, glabrous beneath; light green in summer, yellow-toned in autumn. Pure white flowers are gathered in numerous, erect racemes up to 9 cm long (up to 40 flowers in one inflorescence). Begins flowering about two weeks earlier than the widely distributed rough deutzia. Flowering duration 25–35 days.
