Back to catalogue
Family Davalliaceae. Native to the tropical regions of Polynesia, China, Japan, and Java. Includes about 50 species.

Several species are cultivated as houseplants, for example, Davallia dissecta, Davallia trichomanoides, Davallia truncatula, Davallia pentaphylla - all are epiphytic ferns with thick rhizomes spread over the surface of the substrate and covered with dense hairs.

In most species the fronds are triangular in shape, pinnately divided. In folk terminology this plant is called "Rabbit's feet".

Temperature: In summer prefers about 18-20°C, in winter around 15°C.

Light: Bright, diffused light with protection from direct sunlight. Can grow without shading only on an east-facing window.

Watering: Abundant in summer, moderate in winter, but the soil should be kept slightly moist at all times. It is preferable to water with settled (non-lime) water.

Fertilizer: Feed with a fertilizer for indoor ornamental foliage plants from May to August every two weeks. Use a dose half of that recommended by the manufacturer. Do not use only liquid fertilizers in the watering water.
