Dactylostalyx ringens
Family Orchidaceae. The only representative of the genus, it grows in mountain forests on the island of Shikotan (Kuril Islands), and, outside the USSR, in Japan.
Plant 10 - 20 cm tall, with a thin creeping rhizome. Leaf solitary, basal, ovate, 3 - 6 cm long, 3 - 4 cm wide, petiolate, petiole shorter than the blade. Flower solitary, pale green; bracts membranous, elliptical, 2 - 3 cm long. Perianth segments from oblong to linear-lanceolate, 2 - 2.5 cm long, obtuse, with 3 veins. Lip (labellum) straight, ovate or cuneate, three-lobed; lateral lobes expanded, ovate, 2 - 3 mm long, obtuse, slightly purplish in the upper part; the median lobe rounded-ovate, recurved, about 7 mm long and wide, white with purple spots, more or less undulate at the margin; spur absent. Capsule clavate-fusiform, on a short pedicel. Flowers in May-July.
