Family Asteraceae. A mountain-forest species from Central Europe, the Balkans, and Asia Minor.

Has a fairly long tuberous root. Forms compact bushes up to 40-80 cm tall. Flowers in early summer. Flower stems are almost bare, inflorescences about 5-6 cm in diameter with narrow petals. Attractive in flower beds and rock gardens. In the cultivar Gold straus the stems branch more strongly, and because of this the flowering can be more abundant.
