Family Dryopteridaceae. Native to the tropics of Africa, Japan, China. About 10 species are known in the wild.
Cyrtomium sickle-shaped - Cyrtomium falkatum - a perennial herbaceous plant. Rhizome short, covered with brown scales. Fronds once-pinnately divided, dark green, about 40-50 cm long. Leaf segments leathery, sickle-shaped. Depending on the cultivar they have either toothed or smooth margins.
Temperature: Prefers moderate temperatures. In summer normal room temperatures, in winter about 18-20°C, minimum 10°C.
Light: The location should be fairly bright but shaded from direct sunlight - bright diffused light or light partial shade.
Watering: Abundant in spring and summer, moderate in winter, but the soil should remain slightly moist at all times. Avoid waterlogging the soil.
Fertilizer: In the summer period use a liquid fertilizer for indoor ornamental foliage plants every two weeks. Use half the dose recommended by the manufacturer.
